Ok, definitely feeling panicked. In 24 hours I will be on my way to Heathrow airport to start my 10 week travels/rumspringa/galivanting, whatever you want to call it, and it turns out I'm not a light packer. I suppose I've known this for a while deep down... the things is, I need choice. I don't see what's wrong with a girl wanting a little wardrobe spontaneity when she's away from home. Well, there is a problem, and that is called a 20kg limit on baggage for internal Burmese flights and me having a back that I am reasonably fond of and do not want to break. It's all very sad and inconvenient but I think I will get over the hair straighteners, maybe. I bet Elizabeth Gilbert and Cheryl Strayed had some but whatever, just don't expect any photos of me on this blog.
I'm not good with things going wrong, either - another reason for packing everything: you never know what you might need! I live to make sure nothing goes awry. So I really shouldn't be going travelling at all. The 'going wrong' is all 'part of the fun', so everyone keeps telling me. No. No. And no. It has already gone wrong, though, so I'm having to come to terms with this pretty quickly... and feel the next 10 weeks watching me avoid obstacles that travel agents and airlines and hostels throw in my way could potentially make an excellent film or hilarious TV sketch show... so any budding screenwriters, take note. Anyway, it will all be fine because despite this last paragraph I'm not actually that square... I am very excited to be doing a trip that always seemed like a distant mythical unlikelytohappen thing on the horizon until a few months ago.
Here is my rough itinerary so you can follow me along the way although I have been warned that Burma 'doesn't do internet' so you may find there's a 2 week blip early on...
