So we wake up bright and early only to find out that it is far from bright outside. The first rainy day of the holiday. Aka it rained all day. Didn't stop once. No helicopter, no hike, no ice picks. I'm genuinely infuriated but with no one to blame!
As the day went on though, we got better at handling our rainy day in this one street town, securing ourselves a seat around a a sheltered outside coal fire at the local bar and processing to order everything on the menu. I started with pancakes :D
After failing to nab a beanbag in front of the Harry potter marathon in the lounge area, Sofia, Mike and I decided to watch Don Jon. Great film but wouldn't recommend watching it on an iPad with no headphones in the main reception area of a busy hostel...
We befriended the hostel's dog and cat, with the dog persistently petting our feet and dropping sticks in front of us demanding to be played with. He didn't think much of the film, clearly.
In the afternoon, Sofia, Mike, Mau and I decided to stretch our legs and go for a short in the rain into the forest and along the milky glacier river. The scenery was like something out of a Coen Brothers film, but our stupid photos are obviously more impressive...
In the evening, we tucked into a meal meant for 14 ravenous glacier hikers, not 14 lazy arses who have done nothing but eat and lie down all day... The evening started getting a little messier when good old 'never have I ever' started doing the rounds. A number of pints and shots were involved, but so was a slice of chocolate cake and dancing to Boom Boom Boom by Venga Boys. All made even better by the NZ clock change giving us an extra hour's sleep :D
